Moscow, October 23 (Xinhua) – New US sanctions will not significantly impact Russia's economic health, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated while answering journalists' questions.
"Regarding the new sanctions, first of all, there's nothing new here. Yes, they are serious for us and may have certain consequences, but they won't have a significant impact on our economic well-being," the Russian leader stated.
According to him, the latest anti-Russian sanctions are an attempt to exert pressure. "This is, of course, an attempt to put pressure on Russia. But no self-respecting country or self-respecting people ever decides anything under pressure. And, of course, Russia has the privilege of counting itself among this list of self-respecting countries and peoples," the president stated.
"If we talk about the political aspect, then, of course, this is an unfriendly act toward Russia. This is obvious, and it does not strengthen Russian-American relations, which have only just begun to recover. Of course, with such actions, the US administration is damaging Russian-American relations," Vladimir Putin emphasized.
Commenting on US President Donald Trump's recent announcement to cancel Russian-American talks in Budapest, the Russian leader noted that the meeting was an American initiative.
"In our last telephone conversation, both the meeting itself and its location were proposed by the American side. I agreed with this, expressed my thoughts on the matter, and said that, of course, such meetings need to be well prepared. It would be a mistake for me and the American president to approach this meeting lightly and leave it without the expected results," Putin said.
"I now see that in his statement, the US President has decided to cancel or postpone this meeting. Most likely, he's talking about postponing this meeting. Dialogue is always better than any confrontation, any disputes, and especially war. Therefore, we have always supported continued dialogue, and we continue to do so now," the Russian President added.
