Bucharest, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) — Igor Grosu, leader of Moldova's Action and Solidarity Party, was re-elected as speaker of the country's parliament on Wednesday.

I. Grosu's candidacy was supported by 55 of 101 deputies. His competitor, Oleksandr Stoianoglo of the Alternative bloc, received 32 votes. Legislators representing Democracy at Home and Our Party abstained from participating in the vote.

Last week, the Constitutional Court of Moldova upheld the results of the parliamentary elections held on September 28. Five political forces are represented in the new parliament: the Action and Solidarity Party (55 seats), the Patriotic Bloc (26 seats), the Alternative Bloc (8 seats), Our Party (6 seats), and the Democracy at Home Party (6 seats).

Addressing members of parliament after his re-election, I. Grosu emphasized that the current parliament must become part of the “generation of European integration.”

The Parliament of Moldova is elected for a four-year term. The previous convocation was elected in 2021. In July of that year, I. Grosu became speaker. –0–
