BELGRADE, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — A shooting and arson attack occurred in front of the Serbian parliament building in Belgrade on Wednesday, leaving one person injured.

Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar announced at a press conference that the attacker opened fire on a group of people who had set up tents in front of the parliament building. The group was advocating for the normal functioning of society and against a nationwide lockdown.

According to the minister, the man was "clearly prepared." "This man tried to shoot others and then set them on fire," Z. Lončar said, adding that the victim is in critical condition.

Following the shooting, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić left the event early and declared the incident a terrorist act, as the perpetrator used a firearm and had clear political motives.

The fire has been contained, and police have detained a male suspect. An investigation is currently underway.
