BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — Compatriots from Taiwan will be invited to a commemorative gathering to mark the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation, scheduled to take place on October 25 on the Chinese mainland, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to her, representatives from various circles, including compatriots from Taiwan, will be invited to the ceremonial meeting, and visits and exchanges will be organized before and after the event.
The purpose of holding this solemn meeting is to unite all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation, including compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, to jointly commemorate the history of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, honor the memory of the fallen heroes, and defend the victorious outcome of the war—the liberation of Taiwan from Japanese occupation.
