Astana, October 21 (Xinhua) — Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev paid a state visit to Kazakhstan, during which 15 documents were signed aimed at developing cooperation in economics, transport, energy, and other areas, the Kazinform news agency reported on Tuesday, citing the press service of the administration of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
During the visit, the second meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan was held, chaired by the presidents of the two countries. The heads of state reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and developing transit and transport potential. The parties paid special attention to humanitarian cooperation, science, education, and youth initiatives.
Following the talks, K.-Zh. Tokayev and I. Aliyev issued a joint statement on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and Allied Relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the visit, the heads of state were presented with a joint project, "Development of the Middle Corridor," which aims to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the transport route connecting China, Central Asia, and Europe.
In addition, agreements were signed in the presence of the leaders between Kazakhstan's National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna and the Azerbaijani companies AZCON and SOCAR. The documents provide for the joint operation of ferries manufactured at the Baku Shipyard, as well as the development of renewable energy projects.
