Beijing, October 21 (Xinhua) — China's fundamental position on relations with Japan is consistent and clear. China expects Japan to work with it to comprehensively advance strategic and mutually beneficial bilateral relations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated on Tuesday.
Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a question about the election of Liberal Democratic Party Chairperson Sanae Takaichi as the country's new prime minister.
“China has taken note of the results of the recent vote and considers them an internal matter for Japan,” the Chinese diplomat noted.
Guo Jiakun stated that China and Japan are neighbors and pointed out that China's fundamental position on relations with Japan is consistent and clear.
"We hope that Japan will move toward China, firmly abide by the principles set out in the four Sino-Japanese political documents, unwaveringly adhere to its political commitments on major issues such as history and Taiwan, uphold the political foundation of bilateral relations, and comprehensively advance the strategic and mutually beneficial Sino-Japanese relations," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized.
