BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — China congratulates Rodrigo Paz Pereira on his election as President of Bolivia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.
According to media reports, Rodrigo Paz won the second round of the presidential elections in Bolivia on October 19 local time.
"China is confident that under the leadership of President Rodrigo Paz, Bolivia will achieve even greater success in its development," Guo Jiakun said at a regular departmental press conference, responding to a question on the matter.
Noting that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bolivia, the Chinese diplomat said Bolivia is a strategic partner of China and China is willing to make joint efforts with the new Bolivian government to promote the sustainable development of bilateral relations and bring greater benefits to the peoples of the two countries. -0-
