Beijing, October 21 (Xinhua) — China saw nearly 5 billion domestic tourist trips in the first three quarters of this year, up 18 percent year-on-year, according to data released Tuesday by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
During the reporting period, total domestic tourist spending amounted to 4.85 trillion yuan (about 684 billion US dollars), an increase of 11.5 percent year-on-year.
According to statistics, urban residents remain the main driver of domestic tourism in China, with nearly 3.8 billion trips made and total expenditure reaching 4.05 trillion yuan.
It is noteworthy that the number of domestic tourist trips by rural residents increased by 25 percent year-on-year, with an increase in spending of 24 percent year-on-year. –0–
