Construction of modern pavilions for various purposes is nearing completion at the Luzhniki Olympic Complex, according to the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Public Works. Petr Biryukov.
"We're carrying out the first phase of improvements at Luzhniki. The main goal is to transform the area into one of the capital's best parks, creating a modern public space that will not only accommodate international competitions and amateur sports, but also provide a place for family recreation. The work is being organized in several stages to avoid completely closing the area. This year, we're renovating the Central Square in front of the Grand Sports Arena and the Luzhniki-Central Pier," noted Pyotr Biryukov.
Construction of 13 pavilions is currently nearing completion in the complex's Central Square and two adjacent alleys. Foundations have already been laid, and metal structures and floors have been installed. Workers are completing the installation of utility lines, stained-glass windows, partitions, and interior finishing.
Eight two-story pavilions with rounded glass facades will be located between tree-lined alleys. They will be surrounded by colonnades, forming a pedestrian gallery on the ground floor and a terrace on the second floor.
In winter, two of these pavilions will become part of the rink's infrastructure, housing rentals, storage lockers, and changing rooms. In summer, they will be converted into event spaces. The remaining six pavilions will house cafes and restaurants.
In addition, three round, single-story pavilions will be built on the complex's grounds, and two-story rectangular pavilions will be built on two adjacent alleys, which will become part of the skating rink in winter.
The project at Luzhniki will also include repairs to the walkway surfaces and the installation of new lighting poles with energy-efficient fixtures. A fountain with a large pool of water and seating areas will be installed in the Central Square, and an ice skating rink is planned for the area and adjacent side walkways in the winter.
