Caracas, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA) on Monday issued a "strong condemnation" of recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of "attacks and threats" against Colombia's sovereignty and President Gustavo Petro.

In a statement released in Caracas, ALBA described Trump's comments as a "flagrant violation of Colombia's national sovereignty" and a "direct attack on the dignity of the Colombian people."

According to the ALBA statement, the American president tried to link G. Petro's government to illegal activities, while hinting at possible coercive or military action.

The alliance said these threats reflect "imperialist and bellicose policies based on the Monroe Doctrine" that undermine peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.

He also condemned new US forced tariffs and increased military presence in the Caribbean under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.

The Alliance expressed its “unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Colombia,” reaffirming respect for sovereignty, democracy and the right of peoples to freely determine their future.

ALBA called on the international community to reject any form of intervention or threat of force, stressing the need to maintain peace and stability throughout the region.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas, whose members include Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, and Venezuela, is an intergovernmental organization whose goal is the social, political, and economic integration of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. –0–
