HAIKOU, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) — Typhoon Fengshen, the 24th typhoon this year, is expected to move into waters in the eastern South China Sea around Sunday evening and gradually increase in intensity, local authorities said.

According to the meteorological service of Hainan Province (South China), the typhoon will reach its maximum intensity of a severe tropical storm or typhoon with wind speeds of 30 to 35 meters per second.

Starting from Tuesday, under the influence of a cold front moving southward, the typhoon is expected to turn southwest over the waters in the northern part of the South China Sea and approach the waters located southeast of Hainan Island, while its intensity will gradually weaken.

The local meteorological service issued a Level 4 warning for the typhoon on Sunday morning, while the province was placed on a Level 4 typhoon alert.
