Doha, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) — Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire during talks held in the Qatari capital Doha, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

Talks brokered by Qatar and Turkey have resulted in an agreement to end hostilities and establish mechanisms to promote lasting peace and stability between the two neighboring countries, the statement said.

It is noted that Pakistan and Afghanistan also agreed to hold follow-up meetings in the coming days to ensure the strength of the ceasefire and verify its implementation in a credible and sustainable manner, which will contribute to achieving security and stability in both countries.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed hope that the move would help ease tensions on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan and lay a solid foundation for sustainable peace in the region. –0–
