HANGZHOU, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) — A lithium battery spontaneously ignited on board a plane en route from Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, to Seoul, South Korea, on Saturday. The crew responded quickly, and no injuries were reported.
After the flight took off from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport at 09:47 Beijing time, a lithium battery located in a passenger's carry-on baggage on the overhead compartment spontaneously ignited on board.
After the crew dealt with the incident, the plane was diverted to Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 11:05 a.m. for flight safety. Air China, the airline operating the flight, provided another aircraft to continue the flight.
