WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday called on Russia and Ukraine to "stop where they are" to end the conflict that has lasted more than three and a half years.
Shortly after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on Friday, Donald Trump wrote on social media that he "strongly suggested" that Russia and Ukraine reach a deal and end the conflict.
"It's time to stop the killing and make a deal!" Donald Trump wrote on the social network TruthSocial. "Enough blood has been spilled, and property lines are being defined by war and brutality."
"They must stop where they are. Let both sides win, let history decide!" the American leader declared.
Before his meeting with V. Zelensky, D. Trump ruled out the possibility of holding a meeting between the leaders of the United States, Russia, and Ukraine in the near future and downplayed the prospects of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv.
A day earlier, the US President held a lengthy telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it “very productive.”
Following the telephone conversation, D. Trump announced that he would meet with V. Putin in Hungary for further negotiations to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
In August, the US and Russian presidents met in the US state of Alaska, but no deal was reached, and ceasefire negotiations remain at an impasse.
