Moscow, October 18 (Xinhua) — A gala evening celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Russia Today (RT) television channel was held at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow on Friday. Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the event and delivered a speech.

"Last year alone, the total number of views of our social media channels reached nearly 24 billion, and the RT channel's total audience on pay-TV platforms is almost a billion viewers. This figure inspires confidence that things will continue to develop in this direction," the Russian president said.

RT began broadcasting in 2005, becoming Russia's first international news channel in English. Today, RT includes news channels in six languages—English, Arabic, Spanish, German, Serbian, and French—as well as the documentary channel RTD in English and Russian, and online portals in eight languages, including Portuguese and Russian.

RT is also present in Chinese on popular Chinese social media platforms. RT is available 24/7 to over 900 million viewers in over 100 countries.
