BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with Apple CEO Tim Cook in Beijing on Thursday, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on issues related to trade and economic relations between China and the United States, the development of Apple's business in China, and other topics.

Wang Wentao noted that, under the strategic leadership of the heads of China and the United States, four rounds of negotiations have been held between the trade and economic teams of the two countries since May of this year, aimed at stabilizing bilateral trade and economic ties.

The recent fluctuations in bilateral trade and economic relations were mainly caused by the United States' intensive introduction of a series of restrictive measures against China after the September talks in Madrid, which seriously damaged the country's interests and undermined the atmosphere of trade and economic negotiations, Wang Wentao emphasized.

The Minister expressed hope that the United States will work together with China to find solutions to problems through equal dialogue and consultations, guided by the important consensus reached during the telephone conversation between the heads of state of the two countries, and to ensure a more stable and predictable environment for cooperation between enterprises of both countries.

The minister added that the Chinese government is committed to greater openness and continuous improvement of the business climate so that foreign enterprises can share China's development opportunities. In this regard, he welcomed Apple's continued deepening cooperation with China and increased investment in the Chinese economy.

Apple will continue to deepen its presence in China and actively participate in its high-quality development processes, T. Cook stated in turn.

Favorable trade and economic relations between the United States and China are of great importance not only for both countries, but also for the stability and development of the global economy, the entrepreneur noted, adding that Apple is ready to make a positive contribution to promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between the United States and China.
