BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand in Beijing on Friday, during which the two sides pledged to improve bilateral relations.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada. He stated that the development of Sino-Canadian relations demonstrates that the two countries are fully capable of becoming partners, pursuing mutual success and common development based on mutual respect.

Wang Yi said that China hopes to work with Canada to seize the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership as an opportunity to resume dialogue and exchanges at all levels, guided by the important agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries.

The Chinese diplomat called on both sides to advance the resolution of each other's legitimate concerns, explore and tap the potential for cooperation in various fields, expand humanitarian and cultural exchanges, and strengthen communication and cooperation on multilateral issues. He also stated that the two sides should jointly uphold multilateralism, safeguard the international economic and trade order, and promote the early entry of China-Canada relations onto a path of healthy, stable, and sustainable development.

A. Anand, for her part, noted that there is currently a favorable trend toward improving relations between the two countries, with significant progress being made. She emphasized that Canada adheres to the one-China policy and intends to strengthen high-level exchanges with China and deepen mutual trust. Furthermore, as the Canadian Foreign Minister indicated, Canada is prepared to effectively utilize dialogue and consultation mechanisms in areas such as diplomacy, economics, and trade, and to develop cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, tourism, energy, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

A. Anand added that Canada also strongly supports multilateralism and free trade. –0–
