LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) — More than 10 million Californians participated in annual earthquake drills on Thursday to raise awareness and strengthen public response capabilities to major earthquakes.
At 10:16 a.m. local time, residents of the state paused their daily activities to practice the "Drop, Hide, and Freeze" command—the basic rule recommended during strong earthquakes.
According to the organizer's website, more than 10.4 million people registered to participate in the Great California ShakeOut this year. The event is part of the global Great ShakeOut Drills network of earthquake drills, which attracted more than 58 million participants worldwide this year.
The drills provide an opportunity for individuals, schools, and communities to practice earthquake preparedness, review emergency plans, and update disaster supplies. –0–
