Kunming, October 16 (Xinhua) — As of Wednesday, the China-Laos Railway has carried over 600,000 cross-border trips for travelers from 115 countries and regions since the launch of passenger trains in April 2023, according to data from the Kunming branch of China Railway Corporation (CRC).
Passenger trains running on the China-Laos railway are becoming increasingly popular among a wide range of tourists due to their accessibility, convenience and comfort.
Among them, this year alone, approximately 204 thousand cross-border passenger trips were registered.
The China-Laos Railway, which runs 1,035 km from Kunming (the capital of Yunnan Province, southwest China) to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, was put into operation on December 3, 2021. To meet the needs of passengers for cross-border travel, the railway authorities of China and Laos also launched international passenger trains between Kunming and Vientiane on April 13, 2023.
In July of this year, an additional pair of international passenger trains was added to the route, bringing the total number of daily services between Kunming and Vientiane to four. At the same time, the number of seats on each train was increased from 250 to 420, allowing the railway to serve over 1,400 passengers per day.
In response to the sustained demand for cross-border travel and exchanges, the railway authorities of the two countries will actively optimize operating plans and service standards, ensuring that they can continuously meet the growing needs of passengers. -0-
