Almaty, October 16 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan has completed major construction work and opened the entire Kalbatau-Maikapshagay highway, which connects the country's central and eastern regions with the Chinese border. This was reported on Thursday by the Kazinform news agency, citing the national company KazAvtoZhol.
According to the company, the reconstruction of the national highway from km 906 to km 1321 was carried out as part of the order of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to develop transport and logistics potential and modernize the national road network. The project was financed by the Export-Import Bank of China and the Kazakh national budget.
Darkhan Imanashev, Chairman of the Board of KazAvtoZhol, emphasized that the opening of the Kalbatau-Maikapshagay highway is of strategic importance for Kazakhstan. He stated that this road is a key element of the transportation system connecting the central and eastern parts of the country with China and will contribute to the development of transit potential, strengthen international ties, and improve road safety.
