JINAN, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) — A traffic accident allegedly involving a drunk driver in Liaocheng City, east China's Shandong Province, killed eight people and injured four others on Tuesday evening, local authorities said.
Initial investigations revealed that a 37-year-old man surnamed Du was driving a passenger car while intoxicated until he collided with several electric bicycles at approximately 10:46 p.m. on Tuesday.
As a result of the accident, one person died at the scene, and seven others died in the hospital. The other four injured are in the hospital.
The offending driver was taken into custody by public safety officers. A medical examination revealed a blood alcohol level of 195.3 mg/100 ml. The possibility of drug use was ruled out.
