Hanoi, October 14 (Xinhua) — Damages from Typhoon Matmo in Vietnam have exceeded 8.7 trillion dong (approximately 330.3 million U.S. dollars) as of Monday morning, the Vietnam News Agency reported, citing the local Disaster Management and Dam Control Authority.
The northern province of Thai Nguyen suffered the heaviest losses, estimated at around 4 trillion dong (about $151.9 million).
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh on Sunday approved an additional VND400 billion (about $15.2 million) emergency aid package from the state budget reserve to address the consequences of recent floods in four provinces – Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Lang Son and Bac Ninh, local publication VnEconomy reported.
Last week, the Prime Minister allocated 140 billion dong (about 5.3 million dollars) to the same regions.
According to the latest data, 16 people have died and another 15 were injured as a result of floods caused by Typhoon Matmo. –0–
