BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — The Global Summit for Women, co-hosted by China and UN Women, released a statement Monday.

As the host country, China provided a statement summarizing the main positions of the participants at the event.

It emphasizes that in the face of changes and challenges, all interested countries and parties will, with firm determination and practical action, counter any form of regression and accelerate the process of comprehensive development of women's affairs.

Summit participants issued a call for action in 10 key areas.

They called for the creation of a peaceful and secure environment for women and expressed support for the full and equal participation of women in peace processes.

They also emphasized the need to fully identify the role of women as agents and their transformative power in development, and to empower women to participate in and lead the process of sustainable development and prosperity.

The document emphasizes the importance of preventing and eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls, paying particular attention to those in vulnerable situations or in humanitarian crises, and highlighting the role of young people, especially young women.

Participants called for support for the United Nations to play a central role in developing broader collaborative platforms for women worldwide.

The importance of continuously strengthening women's sense of satisfaction, happiness and security by promoting their comprehensive development, particularly in areas such as poverty reduction, education, health, employment and social security, along with encouraging equal participation in decision-making processes and governance at all levels, was also expressed.

The statement emphasizes the need to improve institutional mechanisms for promoting gender equality and the comprehensive development of women, as well as to strengthen national mechanisms to advance the status of women.

The document also calls for the implementation of favourable and supportive family policies to ensure the equal status and rights of women within the family structure, and for all family members to share in household responsibilities.

It also calls for supporting women's participation in climate and environmental governance and ecosystem protection, and for strengthening women's capacity to respond to climate change and natural disasters.

Summit participants called for advancing a digital transformation that includes women as full, equal, and meaningful participants and leaders. Bias, discrimination, and violence against women, as well as negative stereotypes about them, must be eradicated from the very beginning of the development of digital and intelligent technologies.

They also called for enhanced North-South cooperation, South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation in women's development to address common challenges and promote the shared development of women worldwide.

All parties commended China for its outstanding achievements in this area and its active contribution to global gender equality. They also expressed hope that this summit would serve as a new starting point for accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action of the 1995 World Conference on Women, as well as the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
