TEHRAN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Monday that the recent statement by France, Germany and Britain, known as the E3, about their desire to resume nuclear talks with Iran lacks "goodwill and sincerity."

E. Bagai made the announcement at his weekly press conference, commenting on parts of a joint statement released by E3 leaders on Friday.

The EU3 leaders called their August decision to activate the snapback mechanism, which led to the reimposition of UN sanctions against Iran, "correct." They also expressed their determination to "resume negotiations with Iran and the United States to conclude a comprehensive, lasting, and verifiable agreement that will ensure Iran never acquires nuclear weapons."

According to E. Baghaei, Iran believes that the E3 statement “contains stereotypical statements, some of which are irrelevant and some of which lack goodwill and sincerity.”

The EU3 countries claim to be in favor of diplomacy, while they have led the diplomatic process into a dead end by "abusing" the dispute resolution mechanism provided for in the 2015 nuclear deal, an Iranian diplomat said.

He added that in order to be recognised as "credible" parties in the negotiations, the EU3 must prove its ability to act independently and possess the necessary seriousness, diplomatic potential and decision-making authority.

In August, the EU3 countries activated the snapback mechanism, leading to the reimposition of UN sanctions after the Security Council failed to extend the sanctions relief regime. Iran called the reimposition of sanctions "illegal and unjustified."
