Sydney, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) — Nauru's incumbent President David Adeang was re-elected for a second term following Saturday's national elections.
The Nauruan government announced on social media that D. Adeang was elected president on Tuesday at the first session of the country's 25th parliament.
D. Adeang has been President of Nauru since October 2023 and a Member of Parliament since 2001.
He was one of 19 MPs elected in national elections on Saturday to represent Nauru's eight multi-member constituencies in the 25th Parliament.
D. Adeang received the highest number of votes out of the four members of parliament elected to represent the country's most populous constituency, Ubenide.
Marcus Stephen, who served as the country's president from 2007 to 2011, was re-elected as speaker of parliament on Tuesday. –0–
