JIUQUAN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) — China successfully launched a new satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Monday.

The Shiyan-31 satellite was launched by a Long March-2D launch vehicle at 6:00 pm Beijing time and successfully entered its planned orbit.

The satellite is primarily designed to test new optical imaging technologies.

This was the 599th flight for the Long March series of launch vehicles. -0-
