Moscow, October 13 /Xinhua/ — Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Monday the arrest of four individuals who planned to detonate a powerful homemade bomb to assassinate a high-ranking military officer. One of the detainees, a native of a Central Asian country, was involved in the murder of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces.
According to a report from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), a sabotage and terrorist attack against a high-ranking officer of the Russian Ministry of Defense was planned by Ukrainian special services in conjunction with the leaders of the international terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).
"As a result of the measures taken in Moscow, three Russian citizens involved in covering up the planned crime were detained, as well as a Central Asian national who directly carried out the terrorist attack," the statement reads. It adds that the latter was recruited on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence services by ISIS functionary Saidakbar Gulomov, born in 1979, who is on the international wanted list by the competent authorities of Russia and Uzbekistan.
According to Russia's FSB, S. Gulomov, acting on instructions from his Ukrainian handlers, remotely directed the perpetrator's actions from Ukraine and Western European countries via several foreign messaging apps. He provided him with the necessary funds, information about the target, as well as explosives and other components for making IEDs, which were illegally delivered to Russia by Ukrainian special services using drones.
“S. Gulomov is involved in the murder of the head of the Russian Armed Forces’ NBC Protection Troops, Lieutenant General I.A. Kirillov, which was organized by Ukrainian military intelligence, which once again demonstrates the close ties between the Kyiv regime and international terrorist organizations,” the Russian FSB stated in a statement. –0–
