BEIJING, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) — China's General Administration for Market Regulation (GAMR) described its investigation into Qualcomm for allegedly violating antitrust laws in its acquisition of Autotalks as a routine enforcement action carried out in accordance with the country's antitrust laws.
Although the transaction value was below standard notification thresholds, the GURR launched an investigation because there was evidence that the acquisition could lead to anticompetitive consequences, a department official noted.
On March 12, 2024, the GURR notified Qualcomm in writing of the need to file an application for concentration review and not to proceed with the transaction until its approval.
Two days later, Qualcomm announced in a letter to the GURR that it would withdraw from the deal. However, without any filing or contacting the regulator, the company completed the acquisition in June 2025, the official reported.
Following the receipt of new complaints, the GURR verified the relevant facts, which Qualcomm also acknowledged, which led to the initiation of an antitrust investigation against Qualcomm.
In accordance with the law and regulations, the GURR will continue to advance the investigation in an objective and impartial manner, the official added. -0-
