UN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General António Guterres will travel to Egypt on Monday to attend the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit, the office of the UN Secretary-General's spokesperson said on Saturday.
"The Secretary-General is traveling to Egypt to attend the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit on Monday. He is expected to return to UN Headquarters on Wednesday," the briefing for correspondents reads.
A summit will be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza, Egyptian leaders announced on Saturday.
The meeting, chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, will bring together leaders from more than 20 countries to seek an end to the war in the Gaza Strip, intensify efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East, and usher in a new era of regional security and stability, the Egyptian president said.
