BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) — Trade between east China's Fujian Province and Central and Eastern European countries (CEE) totaled 24.78 billion yuan (about 3.5 billion U.S. dollars) from January to July 2025, up 4.5 percent year-on-year. Exports, in particular, increased 8.2 percent year-on-year to 22.1 billion yuan, according to a statement posted on the official website of the General Administration of Customs (GAC).

Central and Eastern European countries are an important driving force in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. As the number of Fujian cities sending freight by rail to Europe grows, trade and economic ties between the province and the countries of the region are becoming ever closer.

According to customs statistics, since trade volume between Fujian and CEE countries exceeded 10 billion yuan in 2007, it has grown by an average of 8.2 percent annually, reaching 41.8 billion yuan in 2024.

In the first seven months of 2025, they exported and imported goods worth 14.5 billion yuan to and from Central and Eastern Europe, a 13.5 percent increase year-on-year.

Poland, Greece, Hungary, and the Czech Republic are Fujian Province's main trading partners in Central and Eastern Europe. From January to July, Fujian's trade with Poland amounted to RMB 10 billion, or 40.4 percent of the province's total trade with Central and Eastern Europe. Hungary led the growth in trade with Fujian, with bilateral trade volume jumping 94.3 percent to RMB 2.82 billion in the first seven months of this year.

Electromechanical products are Fujian Province's most important export item to Central and Eastern Europe. From January to July, Fujian exported 12.84 billion yuan worth of such products to these countries, a 10.1 percent increase year-on-year, and their share of Fujian's total exports to Central and Eastern Europe approached 60 percent.
