BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — China used 188.3 billion tons of seawater for cooling in 2024, up 1.6 percent year on year, according to a report released by the National Marine Data and Information Service and the China Association of Maritime Affairs.
This volume is approximately equal to eight times the volume of water in Lake Baikal and meets the cooling water needs of power plants, petrochemical plants and steel mills in coastal areas, according to the report.
The country's maritime development index reached 129.7 in 2024, up 2.9 percent from 2023, the report said. -0-
