Rome, October 8 (Xinhua) – Chinese-Italian cooperation is full of bright spots and is characterized by mutual benefit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Rome on Wednesday.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the announcement during the 12th joint meeting of the China-Italy Intergovernmental Commission, which he attended alongside Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani. In his closing remarks, the Chinese Foreign Minister praised the achievements of Chinese-Italian cooperation in various fields.
Wang Yi noted that since last year, China and Italy have been actively implementing the important consensus reached by the two countries' leaders. Taking advantage of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Italian diplomatic relations, celebrated this year, as an opportunity, the two countries are steadily expanding practical cooperation in various fields, with many highlights.
According to the Chinese diplomat, the initial construction of the Sino-Italian Lingang Industrial Park for Innovative Cooperation has been completed, the two sides jointly launched the Zhang Heng 1-02 electromagnetic monitoring satellite, a bilateral agreement on the elimination of double taxation has officially entered into force, the two sides support each other in promoting business, and more than 70 Italian companies will participate in the 8th China International Import Expo.
Furthermore, the countries selected the first four classic literary works for mutual translation, more than ten of the best Chinese and Italian films were screened in both countries, and Shanghai and Shenzhen held separate events with Milan as part of their sister city relationship—a design forum and a fashion week. China unilaterally introduced a trial visa-free regime for Italian citizens and will continue to extend it, inviting even more Italian friends to take a "spontaneous trip to China."
Wang Yi noted that China and Italy are two major economies that support free trade, two leading forces that advocate multilateralism, and two ancient civilizations that advocate exchanges and mutual learning.
In the face of the volatile and turbulent international situation, Wang Yi called on China and Italy to demonstrate responsibility, follow the trends of the times, always trust each other, and jointly achieve success.
The two sides should adhere to the spirit of openness, strengthen and optimize practical cooperation, so that through the rich results of cooperation, they can make even greater contributions to the economic development of both countries and the well-being of their peoples, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry added.
