NEW YORK, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that a 25 percent tariff on imported medium- and heavy-duty trucks will take effect from November 1.
“Starting November 1, 2025, all medium and heavy-duty trucks entering the United States from other countries will be subject to a 25% tariff,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
On September 25, he announced a 25 percent tariff on "heavy/large/trucks" manufactured outside the United States, effective October 1. "We need our truckers to be financially healthy and strong for many reasons, but most of all, for national security!" he wrote then.
According to local media reports, the tariff's implementation was delayed due to opposition from major US automakers concerned about potential supply chain disruptions and rising costs.
