BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) — China's light industry developed steadily and its output continued to rise during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), according to the China Federation of Light Industry.

In 2024, there were 140,000 leading light industry enterprises in China, providing 17.92 million jobs.

The sector's export volume reached US$925.4 billion, accounting for 25.9 percent of the country's total export volume and maintaining its top spot among all industrial sectors for the fifth consecutive year.

China's light industry structure is steadily upgrading, with new segments such as smart home appliances, batteries for new energy vehicles, electric bicycles and others growing rapidly, said Zhang Chunhe, head of the China Federation of Light Industry.

China plans to increase the operating revenue of its light industry to more than 30 trillion yuan (approximately US$4.22 trillion) by 2030, representing an average annual growth rate of at least 5 percent, he said.

By 2030, the number of key national laboratories and engineering research centers in this sector will exceed 300, and the number of valid patents for inventions will increase by an average of 15 percent per year, Zhang Chonghe noted. -0-
