St. Petersburg, October 7 (Xinhua) — The death toll from alcohol consumption containing methyl alcohol in Russia's Leningrad Region has reached 45, the Russian Investigative Committee reported on Tuesday.
According to the agency, investigators in Moscow have detained two more suspects from among the management and beneficiaries of a commercial organization that stored counterfeit alcohol-containing products in the Tosnensky District of the Leningrad Region.
The investigation into the criminal case concerning the production and sale of products that do not meet consumer safety or health requirements, which resulted in the accidental death of two or more people, is ongoing.
In September, multiple deaths following the consumption of counterfeit alcohol began to be recorded in the Leningrad Region. In some cases, methanol was found to be the cause of death.
