With the support of Rosneft, the World Youth Sambo Championships were held in Bogor, Indonesia. More than 370 athletes from 34 countries competed for 37 medal events.
Medals were awarded in sport and combat sambo in two age categories: 16-18 and 18-20. Russian sambo wrestlers won the medal count, winning 34 medals overall – 28 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. Teams from Kazakhstan and Belarus took second and third place overall. The spectacular bouts generated great interest among spectators. This was the first time such a large-scale sporting competition was held in Indonesia and became a significant event for the development of sambo in Southeast Asia.
