XINING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — As of 8 a.m. Monday, 137 tourists who were previously trapped by incessant snowfall in northwest China's Qinghai Province had been evacuated and were in stable condition, local authorities said.

During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays in China, which began on October 1, more than 100 hikers traveled to Laohugou, Menyuan Hui Autonomous County, Haibei Tibet Autonomous Prefecture. On Sunday, a 41-year-old hiker died from hypothermia and acute mountain sickness.

The Laohugou area, located deep in the Qilian Mountains, has an average elevation of over 4,000 meters, complex terrain, and highly variable weather conditions. During the holiday season, there was continuous snowfall.

More than 300 rescuers, more than 10 mounted units, and two medium-sized unmanned aerial vehicles were mobilized to conduct a thorough search and rescue operation to ensure the safety of the stranded tourists.

Search and rescue operations continue as some tourists remain trapped. -0-
