Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev reviewed the Polytechnic's latest technical developments in transport, unmanned aerial systems, and infrastructure, and also gave a lecture to students, postgraduates, and faculty on the development of high-speed rail in Russia. In his speech, he discussed in detail the implementation of the Moscow–St. Petersburg high-speed railway project.
The Deputy Prime Minister was also awarded the title and diploma of Honorary Doctor of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The ceremony took place during the ceremonial meeting of the university's Academic Council.
Vitaly Savelyev graduated from the mechanical engineering faculty of SPbPU in 1977.
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoy for the award and the trust he placed in him, and noted SPbPU's role in training engineering personnel for the domestic transport industry.
"The issue of national technological sovereignty is a pressing issue today. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is actively involved in a number of transport projects. I would especially like to highlight the expertise of SPbPU specialists in developing electric transport models and digital twin technologies for railway rolling stock components. They also have strong expertise in developing digital technologies for unmanned aerial systems. I am confident that, thanks to the Polytechnic's high intellectual and expert potential, we can work together to ensure and strengthen our country's technological leadership in many areas," said Vitaly Savelyev.
