Tbilisi, October 5 (Xinhua) — Georgian Interior Ministry officials have detained the leaders of Saturday's protests, Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Darakhvelidze announced at a briefing on Sunday night.

According to him, those detained have been charged with calling for violent change of the constitutional order or the overthrow of state power, as well as organizing, leading, and participating in group violence. These crimes carry a prison sentence of up to nine years.

"Based on evidence obtained by law enforcement officials, as well as an examination of video footage distributed by various media outlets, it has been established that during the ongoing rally on Freedom Square, the organizers voiced calls for violence. Similar calls were made prior to October 4 of this year," noted A. Darakhvelidze.
