KATHMANDU, October 4 (Xinhua) — Six people were killed on Saturday after an SUV skidded off the road in eastern Nepal, local police said.

According to Panchthar district police spokesman Manoj Kumar Yadav, a car carrying 12 people fell over a cliff approximately 300 meters (980 feet). Six people died instantly.

Six more people were injured. According to preliminary reports, poor road conditions may have been the cause of the accident, a spokesperson told Xinhua.

Road accidents are common in Nepal's mountainous regions, claiming hundreds of lives every year.
