Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev held a meeting to discuss the progress of the federal project "Forest Conservation" within the national project "Environmental Well-Being." The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Federal Forestry Agency, and other relevant agencies.

Dmitry Patrushev reported that more than 71 billion rubles have been allocated for the current federal project by 2030, which is more than 70% more than the funding for this area in the previous national project.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that reforestation has shown a steady positive trend since 2021: more forests are being added than are being lost. In addition to maintaining this positive balance, the new federal project places emphasis on improving the quality of reforestation. These measures include the reconstruction of existing and the creation of new state-owned forest shelterbelts around certain major industrial centers. Work is currently underway to expand the list of areas where reforestation is most needed.

Fundamentally new areas have also emerged. For example, research is being conducted to create a database of genetic and breeding data for forest-forming tree species. This will increase the resilience of forest stands, including to diseases and pests.

A reserve seed stock is being created to support reforestation. For the first time, the federal project includes the restoration of existing forest nurseries and the creation of new ones.

One of the project's key goals is to ensure effective forest fire prevention. Significant funds are allocated annually from the federal budget for this purpose. As part of the federal project, a forest fire center was established in the Zabaikalsky Krai this year. By 2030, more than 1,700 units of specialized equipment for forest fire suppression will be purchased.

The federal project "Forest Conservation" aims to achieve the national goal of "Environmental Well-being." The federal project aims to preserve and enhance the country's forests to create comfortable and safe living conditions, as well as to maintain and develop the economic potential of the forestry sector.
