BEIJING, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), has congratulated the faculty, students, staff, and alumni of Tianjin University on the 130th anniversary of its founding.

In his reply letter dated Tuesday, Xi Jinping called on the university's faculty and students to focus on the country's most important strategic needs from a new starting point.

He expressed hope that they would deepen reforms in the teaching and research fields, strengthen fundamental research and the development of key core technologies.

Xi Jinping also called on them to improve the quality of personnel training, better serve socio-economic development, and make new contributions to building China into a powerhouse in education, science and technology, as well as promoting China's modernization.
