The awards ceremony for the winners of the "Best Social Projects of Russia" program and the Eco Best Award 2025 took place on September 29. Five Moscow transport projects were named winners.
"We continue to make the capital's transport system the best in the world, as instructed by Sergei Sobyanin. Today, Muscovites and visitors to the city are transported by the most comfortable and safe rolling stock, including more than 2,500 electric buses and 31 unique year-round electric vessels. We also host international events to discuss the current transport challenges of major cities. Furthermore, our corporate university provides the opportunity to master industry professions from scratch," said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
Among the winners of the "Best Social Projects of Russia" program is the State Public Institution "Transport Organizer," which presented a year-round electric river transport project and won in the "Environmental Projects and Initiatives" category. Moscow's electric vessels are unique worldwide. They are the most innovative mode of transport, operating year-round on the river without harming the city's ecology. Furthermore, all vessels are assembled entirely in Russia, and their key components, including the electric motor, hull, and control software, are also domestically produced. Since the launch of regular river services in Moscow, 31 electric vessels have already operated on three routes. In more than two years, passengers have made over 2.5 million trips on them.
Mosgortrans State Unitary Enterprise, together with its project "The Southern River Terminal—a Transport Facility and a Center of Attraction for Muscovites and Visitors," won in the "Landscaping" category. The Southern River Terminal reopened after reconstruction in April 2023. Following its renovation, Moscow regained its status as a port of five seas. Today, it is one of the key infrastructure facilities in the capital's river transport infrastructure.
During the summer river navigation season, the piers of the Southern River Terminal receive and dispatch motor ships to dozens of cities and tourist centers across Russia and serve passengers on regular river electric transport, which operates along one of three routes.
The renovated Southern River Terminal has also become a popular destination in the capital. It's a comfortable building with landscaped grounds and an accessible embankment. Free master classes, sports training sessions, lectures, city celebrations, and festivals are held here year-round. Since its opening, the terminal has welcomed over 750,000 visitors.
Sergei Sobyanin opened the renovated Southern River Terminal.
The "Moscow Transport Workers Development Ecosystem" concept of the Corporate University of the Transport Complex was recognized as the best in the "Corporate Projects" category. It includes a wide range of educational programs for training specialized personnel for the capital's transport complex and improving their performance. The University is implementing the objectives of the Moscow Transport Complex Development Program through 2030 and is participating in 15 subprograms, covering 100 percent of its subordinate institutions. This year, over 50,000 people completed the training.
The 3rd International Transport Summit was awarded in the "Development of Interethnic Cooperation" category. Each year, it confirms its status as the leading platform for discussing transport challenges in modern megacities. In 2024, the summit was attended by over 100 experts from 30 cities worldwide, and this year, 140 delegates from 43 megacities participated.
Mosgortrans's project "Supply of Electric Buses with Improved Configurations" won the Eco Best Award 2025, winning the "Best Service Company" category. This year, new-generation KamAZ-52222 electric buses entered service. They are even more comfortable thanks to an improved interior layout, a 15 percent larger storage area, additional carry-on luggage space, and redesigned doors. The climate control system has become more efficient, and the doors now feature light strips indicating opening and closing. Their appearance reflects contemporary trends in global industrial design.
Under the contract with PJSC KAMAZ, 400 KAMAZ-52222 A5 generation electric buses are planned for delivery this year. They are being developed based on operating experience with earlier models and passenger feedback. Moscow's order for the new equipment supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.
13 electric buses have been put into service on routes 111 and 194.
The "Best Social Projects of Russia" program is an industry award established to professionally recognize achievements in corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. The Eco Best Award is an independent public award presented for the best products and practices in the fields of ecology, energy, and resource conservation.
