Nanning, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) — The total number of standard container units (TEUs) transported by trains on multimodal rail-sea transport along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor in western China reached 1.09 million in the first three quarters of 2025, up 70.3 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Nanning branch of state-owned China Railway Group.
"This year has seen the fastest growth in freight volume since the launch of the multimodal rail-sea trade corridor, with the one million TEU milestone reached in just 247 days," said Zhao Jian, an official with China Railway Nanning Group, adding that given the current growth trend, the cumulative number of TEU shipments could exceed 1.3 million units for the entire year.
As of the end of August this year, the range of goods transported along this corridor had expanded to 1,316 categories, covering dozens of major types, including electronics, vehicles and auto parts, mechanical equipment, and food products, which contributed to the creation of new growth drivers for the high-quality development of the country's western region.
“Since the beginning of this year, electric vehicles produced by factories in Chongqing and Chengdu have been exported mainly through this trade corridor,” Zhao Jian noted.
This trade corridor, whose operations center is located in the southwestern city of Chongqing, connects global ports via railways, sea routes, and highways through southern Chinese regions such as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Yunnan Province. Cargo transportation within the corridor now covers 75 cities across the country, as well as 577 ports in 127 countries and regions worldwide.
