Minsk, October 2 (Xinhua) — Belarus and Myanmar have agreed to implement a number of mutually beneficial projects in trade and economic cooperation. This was announced by Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov on Thursday during the second meeting of the Joint Belarus-Myanmar Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation in Minsk. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry's press service published the corresponding information.
M. Ryzhenkov noted that Myanmar is an important partner for Belarus in Southeast Asia. He added that despite their geographical distance, the two countries have many points of contact.
"Following the meeting, we agreed to implement a number of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation projects, primarily in the trade and economic sphere. These range from agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry, cooperation in healthcare and education, to the implementation of specific projects aimed at ordinary people," the Belarusian Foreign Minister said.
He added that the parties agreed to facilitate visa procedures and create favorable conditions for contacts between entrepreneurs and citizens of the two countries. "Furthermore, as the current chair of the EAEU, an SCO member state, and a BRICS partner, Belarus will fully support the development of Myanmar's cooperation with these international organizations and associations," Ryzhenkov emphasized.
In turn, Myanmar's Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Wa Wa Maung, expressed her country's readiness to cooperate with Belarusian universities and conduct exchanges between them, including for academic specialists. "We intend to implement the agreements reached on contacts in the tourism sector and would like to invite Belarusian tourists to Myanmar. The possibility of establishing direct flights between Myanmar and Belarus was also discussed," BelTA quotes her as saying.
Furthermore, according to the minister, cooperation in the banking and financial sectors, as well as between the business communities of the two countries, was agreed upon. The parties also agreed on a cooperation roadmap for the implementation of joint projects.
