JAKARTA, October 1 (Xinhua) — At least 91 students were trapped after a school building collapsed on Monday in Sidoarjo, Indonesia's East Java province, the country's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday evening, three people had died in the incident, more than 90 others had been injured, 26 of whom had been hospitalized, BNPB spokesman Abdul Mukhari said.

Hundreds of rescuers from various agencies are working at the scene. Due to concerns that the use of heavy equipment could lead to further collapse, rescuers are clearing debris by hand and delivering water and food to those trapped.
