MANILA, October 1 (Xinhua) — At least 26 people were killed and 147 others injured after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Cebu Province in the central Philippines on Tuesday evening, local media reported Wednesday.
The death toll is expected to rise.
Earthquake victims continue to arrive at the local hospital, putting strain on medical staff.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology earlier reported that a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Cebu province at 9:59 p.m. local time on Tuesday, later revising the magnitude to 6.9.
According to him, the epicenter of the tremors was located 19 kilometers northeast of the city of Bogo. The epicenter was located at a depth of 5 kilometers.
