Almaty, October 1 (Xinhua) — Deputies of the Majilis (lower house of parliament) of Kazakhstan have ratified an agreement with the government of Turkmenistan on cooperation in combating crime, the Kazinform news agency reported on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed on October 10, 2024, in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat.

The document establishes a legal basis for cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in combating organized crime, terrorism and extremism, the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, illegal migration, and human trafficking. This document also covers other types of crimes, the detection and investigation of which require cooperation between the competent authorities of the two states.

The cooperation includes fulfilling mutual requests, exchanging operational and forensic information, experience, specialists, and regulatory legal acts in the field of crime prevention. The parties also agreed to facilitate the training and professional development of specialists from both countries.

The Ministries of Internal Affairs of both countries have been designated as the bodies responsible for implementing the agreement. –0–
