Bishkek, September 30 (Xinhua) — Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree calling early elections for members of the Zhogorku Kenesh (parliament). According to the decree, the elections will be held on November 30, 2025, the president's official website reported on Tuesday.
According to the decree, the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums of Kyrgyzstan is instructed to organize elections in accordance with the country's legislation and implement remote voting.
Meanwhile, the country's cabinet of ministers has been instructed to allocate the necessary financial resources for the elections, take measures to ensure the rule of law, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and the protection of public order, as well as to clarify data from the Unified State Population Register to compile accurate voter lists.
The Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic must ensure compliance with the Constitution and laws of Kyrgyzstan when preparing and conducting elections.
On September 25, members of the Kyrgyz Parliament voted to dissolve the Legislative Assembly. The proposal was put forward by an initiative group of 32 members. As MP Ulan Primov explained, there is a short period of time between two important political events—the presidential and parliamentary elections—and so, in order to strengthen the political system and stability in the country, the initiative group proposed that parliament voluntarily resign.
The Zhogorku Kenesh (Federal Assembly) is Kyrgyzstan's unicameral parliament, consisting of 90 members elected for five-year terms. According to the initial schedule, Kyrgyzstan's parliamentary elections were scheduled for November 2026, but presidential elections are scheduled for just two months later, in January 2027.
As Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu previously stated, despite the self-dissolution, the powers of the current convocation's deputies will remain in effect until new deputies are elected, and if necessary, an extraordinary session will be convened.
