WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday he would impose a 100 percent tariff on all films produced outside the country.
"Our film production business has been stolen from the United States of America by other countries, like 'candy stolen from a child,'" he wrote on the social network Truth Social. "Therefore, to solve this long-standing and never-ending problem, I will impose a 100 percent tariff on all films made outside the United States," he added.
Trump did not specify when the measure would be adopted, nor how his administration would calculate the cost of the film or how the tariff would apply to films partially shot abroad, local media reported on Monday.
In early May, the head of the White House threatened to impose a 100 percent tariff on all foreign-made films entering the United States.
“The film industry in America is dying very quickly,” he wrote at the time in Truth Social, complaining that other countries were “offering all sorts of incentives to lure” filmmakers and studios away from the US. –0–
